C. China city bans new polluting plants
Editor:Source:Xinhua  Time:2016-2-19
The central Chinese city of Zhengzhou will approve no new high pollution projects in 2016, the latest effort to curb air pollution, local authorities said Monday.

Zhengzhou, capital of Henan Province, was the fifth most-polluted city among 74 major cities nationwide, according to the Ministry of Environmental Protection.

Last July, ministry officials summoned Zhengzhou officials to discuss the pollution.

Steel, cement, plate glass, electrolytic aluminum and nonferrous metals makers are on the banned list, said Liu Junjie, deputy director of the city's environmental protection bureau.

Local authorities will renovate coal-fired power plants and heating boilers to reduce emissions, Liu said.

Heavy smog has become a source of public complaints, prompting authorities to be more serious in tackling air pollution.
