China over-fulfills target of emission reduction for 12th Five-Year Plan: MEP
Editor:CCTV  Time:2016-2-19
China has seen a reduction of major pollutant discharges in 2015, said Chen Jining, Chinese Minister of Environmental Protection at a news briefing on Friday in Beijing.

China has over-fulfilled the target of emission reduction for the 12th Five-Year Plan period (2011-2015), according to Chen.

In 2015, the average PM 2.5 density of the first batch of 74 cities, which have adopted new environment air quality standards, dropped 14.1 percent from last year, while the country's emissions of chemical oxygen, ammonia nitrogen, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides declined by 3.1 percent, 3.6 percent, 5.8 percent and 10.9 percent, respectively, from last year.

"To be frank, few countries can complete so many large projects in such a short time to deal with our pollution. One of the obvious changes is that we can see a considerable reduction of sulfur dioxide and acid rain," said Chen.
